An Open Letter to Arvind Kejriwal

The only hope of our country

I write this letter with reference to your much famed decision to contest against Sheila Dikshit in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

Bravo! You at least brought a stir in the way politics happen in our country. The implications and the results matter less now. The impact has hit the target.

I, personally, regret your decision and am bound to conclude an emotional rush with respect to your decision. I cannot think of any strong logical explanation why would you waste your one, big chance (which some interpret as the only chance) to bring a change. Below are some arguments why I think it’s not a very wise decision.

Firstly, Sheila Dikshit is a shrewd lady (read ‘smart’ if you are the sophisticated class). Even if you have kept the ground open, she would choose it carefully. And if she chooses a constituency where she has a history of wins, you might be at a loss. After all, it’s not a writer’s job managing 3 consecutive wins.

Secondly, if she chooses any place with mostly reserved class population, or lower middle-class population, there is a possibility that people will not be bothered about your reforms and the need to bring in the change.

Thirdly, your positive presence is registered mostly with the educated section of our society (and Seemapuri ofcourse) and I think you would be aware of it (else start doubting your marketing managers and analysts). Choosing your constituency keeping that in mind would have given you an edge and the probability of a win would have increased.

Although it can be argued that such a bold decision will give lot of praises to the party and people will be tempted to give it a thought and try to change their leader-of-years for once. This is a ‘Do or Die’ situation and is going to either make or break AAP’s future.

Moreover, whether a win or loose, party analysts will at least be able to judge the position of AAP after rigorous hard work in the country’s capital. This will prepare ground for future battles, which can be planned more strategically from this data.

Lastly, as you said, ‘History is witness to the fact that whenever there has been a battle between wealth and junoon (passion), the latter has won.’ I pray from the bottom of my heart that this time too junoon wins.
